Composiflex maintains in-house, multi-faceted capabilities to lay-up, process, waterjet cut and finish composite-based products.  An overview of Composiflex’s capabilities and technologies includes:

  • CAD and Finite Element Design
  • Clean room manufacturing
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Filament winding and multi-spindle winding
  • Winding of tubular structures sliced and machined to specifications
  • In-house silk screening capabilities
  • Large press molding with heating and cooling capacities
  • Computer-controlled composite autoclave molding
  • Surfcam-programmed, 5 Axis CNC machining utilized for foam, honeycomb, patterns, carbon, aluminum and glass composites
  • Waterjet cutting of glass, aluminum alloys, stainless steel, titanium, inconel, foam, phenolic, fiberglass, PVCs, ABS, acrylic, rubber, gasket materials, fiberglass, ceramic and insulation
  • Advanced finishing processes for superior aesthetic appeal.

Project Milestones

  • Composiflex produces armor panels for aircraft, including one of the most complex aircraft weapons systems in the world – the AC-130U “Spooky” gunship.
  • Composiflex, in cooperation with Saint-Gobain, a leader in ballistic ceramics, and Honeywell International, producers of Spectra® fiber and Spectra Shield® uni-directional material, produced an armor package for the High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), known today as the HUMMER.
  • Engineering customer solutions by integrating complementary technologies, Composiflex developed a very accurate, high-tension fiber delivery system for filament winding carbon fiber/epoxy flywheels and permanent magnet rotors. Composiflex specializes in this technique using a computer controlled En-Tec filament winding machine, which can wind structures up to 36” in diameter and 10’ long.

Applications for Advanced Composites

Advanced composites are particularly useful for industrial, military, ballistic, aerospace, automotive, civil, medical and consumer product applications that demand ultra-high performance, lightweight characteristics and corrosion-resistant features.  Composiflex uses a variety of resins, materials and manufacturing technologies to achieve desired performance results for composite products, structures and reinforcements.
